What to Wear for
Family Photos

I am SO excited you’ve booked photos with me! Now the real fun begins - planning your dream session together! One of the most common questions I am asked during the planning process is ‘What should we wear?’. My answer will always be to wear what you’re all most comfortable in and what feels the most “you”! However, there are a few other tips that might help narrow down your decision.

THE KEY TO SUCCESS WHEN PICKING OUTFITS FOR YOUR FAMILY PHOTOS:

Use coordinating color pallets. You can start with one core color and incorporate varying neutral shades for everyone else!

Since my photos tend to be taken in soft natural elements, complimenting earth tones are always a great choice! (Avoid completely matching the background - For example, if we’re headed to the forest or a grassy field, avoid greens as you’ll blend into the green background.)

Mixing textures will give a super fun contrast in your images. Variety is best!

Don’t forget to keep seasonality in mind and dress warm enough to keep everyone comfortable and happy.

Have multiple options you love? Great! Feel free to bring them with you. One outfit change is recommended so you have a variety of images in your gallery (even if it’s just a portion of your family changing or layering pieces you’re adding/removing, styling can make your images feel/look different overall).

lET me know if I can help!

If you’re feeling stuck, find inspiration online or with one family member’s outfit that you love and work from there as a starting point! When in doubt, ask me! Ü We can dream up outfits that compliment the scenery your photos will be taken in. You’re always welcome to send me photos prior to your session and we can work on a moodboard together! I am passionate about the fashion industry and I absolutely love helping bring your vision to life.
